THE MEDIC & THE METHOD.

Developed by Doc Smith, the Jing Palace Method is the result of over 20 years in healthcare.
- The Soldier: I spent my first decade as an officer in the army Medical Services Corps, surviving three tours in Iraq as a Medical Platoon Leader, and in some of the most violent areas of operation I gained hands-on experience treating and evacuating hundreds of battlefield casualties. I know trauma through felt-sense, not just anatomy on paper, and know what happens when the human body is pushed to the limit.
- The Healer: In 2015, I left the system to become a Certified Medical Qi Gong and Holistic Health Practitioner. My specialty is Tui Na—the hands-on bodywork pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
My understanding of health isn’t theoretical; it is palpable. It is based on what I felt with my own hands while treating patients. I combine the rigorous testing of military medicine with the ancient wisdom of the East to help you stop renting your health and become your own doctor.

THE ORIGIN OF THE PALACE.

“Jing Palace” is not just a name. It is a diagnostic reality.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the term ‘palace’ refers to assessment. A Palace is not just a building; it is where we go to observe the state of the Kingdom. Knees are the ‘palace of tendons’, meaning we can tell if tendons throughout the body are in poor shape if our knees are in pain. In the same sense, the Head is known as the “Palace of the Jing” (the physical body, or our physical essence). By observing the alignment and function of the head, we can assess the health of the entire physical body.
I learned this lesson under an avocado tree in Santa Barbara. I had a patient, a 74-year-old stroke survivor. He could barely walk, even with assistance. He struggled to chew, swallow, speak, or breathe. Medical Doctors looked at his blood under a microscope. I looked at his Jing Palace.
His head control was non-existent. His neck was dysfunctional. The Palace had crumbled, so the Kingdom had failed.
For three months, I treated him twice a week outdoors with Tui Na bodywork. We worked on his structure. The results were undeniable: his eczema vanished, his insomnia disappeared, his joint pain receded, and his vitality began to return.
Tragically, he fell at home and was taken to the hospital. Isolated in a bed, cut off from nature and bodywork, and flooded with pharmaceuticals, he passed away three days later.
The Lesson: That experience solidified the core truth of JPM: The soft tissues all around the neck do not just hold your head up—they enable you to breathe, speak, chew, and swallow. They are the gatekeepers of longevity. If you rely on the system to save you, you may lose. You must build a structure that can survive.
The Realization: I couldn’t save him from the system then, but his legacy lives on in this method. His struggle taught me that we cannot wait for a crisis to build our defenses. You must build a structure that doesn’t need saving.
